Default very bad teeth - aged 20!

During my childhood I had extremley bad oral hygenie and due to this my teeth are rotting... I would say out of all the teeth (left) in my mouth that the bottom 6 and maybe a couple at the top are ok the rest have cavitys/parts of the tooth missing and I think in total there's 5 teeth missing.

This causes me a huge lack of self-confidence at just the age of 20 I can't flash a smile! I'm only a student at uni at the moment but have a job... I want to look into hopefully saving a large deposit and then maybe going to look into finance when I have finished uni and got a full time job.

Does anyone know the sort of prices I'm looking at (I know it's not cheap ...) and is there any other options for me other than implants?

I would recommend having a free consultation with a cosmetic dentist and they will be able to give you an indication of costs and also alternatives to implants which would probably be dentures or bridges but you really need to see a dentist to get some good advice. feel free to look at our directory of cosmetic dentists to see if there is one located in your area, most you will find offer a FREE consultation.

    Good Luck

    Default I feel your pain.

I, too, am 20 years old and I am in the same boat that you are in. My teeth are so bad that it's disgusting. It is literally ruining my relationships and even my social life. I cannot eat the foods that I love to eat and I cannot flash a smile to my fiancee or even my family. It's very embarrassing and what's even worse is that I am too ashamed to visit a dentist. I am really trying to talk about this in order to gain more courage but I'm not sure what to do next. I wish I could just be qualified for a free smile makeover that could be over in one day. The whole process scares me.

I have never once been to a dentist in my life. I was never taught proper oral hygiene. Both of my parent's have had problems with their teeth so I don't understand as to why they didn't get me the help I needed. I never flossed and I was taught to brush only in the morning. I consumed too much soda and it did extensive damage.

    I really feel so alone.

What is your location dear; I may be able to help you get information on cost. I just had my teeth done and I am 40 years old, and saved 2/3 the cost by going threw the right dentist.

I thought I was the only one to have such bad teeth at a young age. I'm sorry to see there are more people suffering.

I'm 21, and basically my teeth are ruining my life. Most have some decay, some back teeth have rotted away completely, and they are all discoloured.
Due to all this I have very little confidence, I cannot have a face-to-face conversation and my social life is pretty much none existent. I am holding down a job but I fear if any of my front teeth get worse, or even fall out, I just won't be able to face people and i'll lose my job because I can't communicate.
I struggle to eat some things, and i'm even having trouble talking sometimes because i'm trying to talk in a way which doesn't show my teeth so much.
I'm starting to feel like the time is coming when I have to do something, but i'm not sure what.
I would be happy to get them all out and get dentures, but I think my gums would need repaired first and I can't go to work with no teeth while i'm waiting. I need something which could be done fairly quickly.
I know the best thing to do would be to see a local specialist, but I haven't got the courage yet, and i've been hiding my problems from my family and i'm not ready for them to find out, so I would need to do something without them knowing, when I do find the courage.

If anyone can suggest treatments, or any further advice for myself or those above, I will look forward to reading it.

    Thanks

    Hi

I am sorry to hear your teeth are making you so unhappy.

It is very difficult to say what can be done for you without carrying out a clinical and radiographical examination.

In cases where people require many extractions and dentures, it is possible to have immediate replacement dentures, which involve preparing the dentures prior to extractions and extracting the teeth only once the denture is ready, so you would not be seen without teeth.

As I said, it is difficult to say that the above would be a treatment option in your case, and therefore recommend you arrange a consultation with a dentist.

    Best Wishes

I would just like to say that I have my first dentist appointment on Friday and in a way I'm actually looking forward to it (I am however terrified also!)

As stupid as it sounds it not the dentist or anything like that I'm afraid of I'm just so embarrased about my teeth it terrifies me!

Well wish me luck and I'll let you all know how things go!
