Hi, just to update you, today my son had his root canal done, what can I say about his dentist other than he is a STAR! After weeks of waiting and many sleepless nights ( by his mom ) he went along and had his treatment and is fine! I had read many things on the internet about root canals - some good some bad but my sons dentist was great and all is well. Can I just thank you all for your help and advice and say what a great service you provide for people who are nervous and worried. Thank you all again.

Unfortunately I think the advise you have been given is most likely
correct. The tooth will only last as long as the root canal and so it is
essential this is completed to a very high standard and you may want to
request referral to a specialist endodontist who just does root canal
treatments. If your son is nervous it is possible to use sedation but in
view of your sons age this should be done by a dedicated sedationist.
The procedure however should not be painful at all and can be done with
