Worcester dentist, Don Tipton, is preparing to swap his dental drill for his golf clubs, as he retires after almost 40 years in the business.

Mr Tipton has been treating patients at St John’s Dental Practice for 37 years and is now looking forward to spending more time on the golf course after working his last shift at the surgery on Thursday.

Mr Tipton joined the practice after graduating in general practice and undertaking training in Manchester; he started work at St John’s in 1976 and has been at the practice ever since. Now 64, Don is planning to spend more time with his family and pursue his interests and hobbies, which include keeping fit and gardening.

The surgery has gone from strength to strength during Mr Tipton’s career and was named Practice of the Year by Denplan.

Mr Tipton, who lives with his wife Pam near Leigh Sinton, has two grandchildren. He said that he will be sorry to leave his patients, many of whom have been at the practice for many years, but he is looking forward to travelling and working on his golfing skills.

Members of the St John’steam arranged a send-off for Mr Tipton and said that he will be sorely missed.
