Members of staff at Chipping Manor Dental Practice in Wooton-under-Edge are collecting toys, toiletries, clothes and other baby equipment for orphaned children in Tanzania.

The practice has been working with dental charity, Bridge2Aid for some time now and they are now gathering together resources to send over to Tanzania. Over the last six years, the practice has raised around £135,000 for the charity, which provides support for people living in rural communities in Tanzania.

Practice owner, Shaenna Loughnane, visited Tanzaniain January and decided that she wanted to help out after spending time at the Forever Angels children’s home in the village of Mwanza in the North of the country. The home cares for orphaned children, children who are ill, HIV positive children and newborn babies who have been abandoned; it was established by Amy Hathaway and there are currently around 50 children living at the home.

The team is now collecting unwanted toys, equipment and clothes, including new and second hand items and the supplies will be sent to the home later this month. Practice manager Alison Chomette is donating her son’s Moses basket and encouraged people to get involved with the appeal; she said that it doesn’t require people spending any money and it will make a huge difference to the children living at the home.

The practice is also raising money to help pay for two specialist chairs for Katy and Juma, two children who are severely disabled. The chairs cost £300 each and anyone who would like to donate to the cause is encouraged to contact the practice on 01453 844646.
