Wirral Dental Team preparing for African Mission
A dentist and a dental nurse are preparing to go to Uganda this summer on a dental mission.
Dentist Paul Sherrard and dental nurse Laura Hill will travel to Uganda in July to help families who have no access to regular dental care; many of the people they visit will never have had dental treatment before.
The trip will last for 17 days and the pair will be based in communities in the Kampala region. The duo have got the full support of their colleagues and the team at their practice Moreton Dental Care on Hoylake Road are planning events to raise money for the trip. Members of staff are also appealing to other local dentists to donate to the cause by giving equipment for the team to take with them. Amongst the fundraising events is a hike up Mount Snowdon.
Paul Sherrard said that he is excited about the trip and is relishing the challenge of performing dental procedures in a very different environment. Rates of decay and other oral health problems are very high in the Kampala region and very few people have access to dental service.
