A dental team from Cricklade, Wiltshire has raised thousands of pounds for Cancer Research UK after losing a colleague to bowel cancer earlier this year.

Five members of the team from Cricklade Dental Practice completed the Shine Night Walk in London in memory of dentist, Chris Cain, who died in April following a battle with bowel cancer. The walk, which is 14.8 miles long, took place on the 27th September. More than 17,000 people took part and the team, which consisted of Anne Dunn, Sally Humphries, Karen Wilson, Tracey Chipchase and Laura Horton, raised a total of £3,177.

Chris had been at the practice for 18 years and was very popular with both colleagues and patients; when he died, there was a huge sense of loss in the community and people have really supported the team and been extremely generous with their donations.

Sally Humphries, the practice manager, said that initially, the fundraising target was £700, but the donations kept pouring in and the team was absolutely thrilled to raise such a significant amount for Cancer Research UK. The generosity of people is testament to the impact Chris had on the lives of his family members, patients and friends.

All the staff members thanked everyone for their support; the team has been training for the walk for a while now and keeping patients updated with their progress and now they are able to say that they’ve not only pounded the pavements, but also raised an amazing amount of money for a really good cause.
