A dental team from Whiteabbey has joined forces with other local businesses and charities to raise awareness of breast cancer this month. The town has been painted pink and a host of events are taking place to raise money for cancer charities and make people more breast cancer aware.

The team from Abbey Dental Care hosted a bake sale and coffee morning in order to raise money for good causes and they urged patients to neglect their usual healthy eating regimes and indulge in the sugary treats for charity.

Staff members at Ladbrokes donned pink clothing and wigs and coffee mornings were also held at Darlings, the town hairdresser, and Paula’s Beauty.

The staff team at Abbey Dental Care was also joined by Councillor Thomas Hogg and they dressed up in pink to mark the occasion.

Councillor Hogg, who is mayor of Antrim and Newton Abbey, took a stroll around the town to see what everyone was up to, sample the numerous cakes and biscuits on offer and support businesses taking part in the awareness effort.

Representatives from Action on Cancer approached a number of local businesses a few months ago with a view to organising events in the town in October and everyone has got behind the campaign and made an effort to support important charitable causes.
