A dental hygienist from Wales is gearing up for her fifth visit to Tanzania with the dental charity, Bridge2Aid.

Yvonne Wood, from Yvonne Wood Dental Hygiene at The Courtyard in Glansevern, will travel to Tanzania on the 22nd June, as she prepares to help out with the charity’s Dental Volunteer Programme. The programme, which is divided into two sections, provides training for dental and health practitioners based in Tanzania, giving them the skills to provide care for hundreds of people living in remote villages. Phase 1 enables clinical officers to learn dental skills and phase 2 aims to equip the newly trained practitioners with the education and training they need to pass on skills to others.

Yvonne has seen the desperate situation in Tanzania, where people have limited access to even the most basic healthcare, let alone comprehensive dental services, and she is also well aware of the difference Bridge2Aid is making. The charity is investing in the future, providing essential skills, which will enhance provision and improve standards of oral health for many years to come. Yvonne’s visit later this month will be the second time she has assisted on stage 2 of the programme, and she is looking forward to getting stuck in.
