Washington Dental Nurse Preparing for Uganda Charity Mission

Sample News Big

A dental nurse from Washington is preparing to swap the North East of England for Uganda after making arrangements to visit Africa with oral health charity, Dentaid.

Danielle Brown, who is 22 and a dental nurse at the Oasis dental clinic in North Shields, will be travelling to Uganda this summer to help provide much-needed basic dental care for hundreds of people living in poverty.

Dentaid works to provide people living in poor communities with basic dental care. Thousands of people in Uganda lack even the most basic dental care and are forced to put up with oral diseases and pain or journey for miles, often on foot, to see a dentist.

Oral health is a major problem in the developing world, with most people living in underserved areas, where there is one dentist to thousands of patients. Many people do not even own a toothbrush and oral health education is almost unheard of.

Danielle will be joining a group of volunteers for the expedition in the summer and the team will be visiting villages and health centres to give out basic oral hygiene supplies, educate people about oral health and provide a basic range of dental treatments.
