Walkden Unregistered Dental Worker Performs Illegal Teeth Whitening

Sample News Big

An unregistered dental worker from Walkden faces a court bill of £4,500 after carrying out illegal teeth whitening.

Janet Johnstone was found guilty of performing the procedure on the 5th of August, 2014 at Simply Chic Teeth Whitening.

Johnstone was not a qualified dental nurse and has never been registered with the General Dental Council (GDC).

The investigation into Johnstone’s practice was launched after officers from Trading Standards visited the outlet in Walkden. Following this visit, the GDC sent investigators to look further into the concerns that were raised.

Since the investigation, Simply Chic Teeth Whitening of Bolton Road has disbanded, and nobody from the company has commented on the case. It has been confirmed that in December last year, the business became Simply Chic Health and Beauty.

42-year-old Johnstone, who lives on Manchester Road in Tyldesley, has received a fine of £1,750 and is to pay the GDC £2,500, on top of a victim surcharge of £200.

By law, teeth whitening can only be carried out by dental professionals who are registered with the GDC. You can check that your dental professional is registered by going to www.gdc-uk.org.
