Volunteer Dentists Preparing for Oklahoma Mission of Mercy Clinic

Sample News Big

Volunteer dentists and students are preparing to help hundreds of people at the Oklahoma Mission of Mercy clinic in McAlester, which is taking place on Friday and Saturday.

The Oklahoma Dental Association is sponsoring the event and representatives say that they are hoping to treat around 2,000 people and give away around $1 million worth of dental care over the course of the two-day event.

Dr Kathryn Bellar is one of the many dentists offering her time and expertise for the weekend. Dentists will be assisted by medical students from the Oklahoma State University, who will be responsible for taking blood pressures and temperatures and recording details of medical histories.

Many of the people who will attend the event will not have been to a dentist in several months, or even years and dentists are anticipating seeing some patients with severe dental problems.

The Southeast Expo Center in McAlester has been converted into a huge dental clinic for the next two days, with a total of 130 dental chairs and 1,700 volunteers will be helping out at the event.

Appointments are available on a first come, first served basis and the clinic opens at 5am both mornings.
