Vets Urge Pet Owners to Arrange Dental Checks

Sample News Big

Today marks the start of National Pet Dental Month in the USA and vets are eager for pet owners to support the campaign and arrange for their pet’s teeth and gums to be checked.

Most pet owners are unaware that they need to take care of their pet’s oral health and statistics show that the majority of pets suffer from decay. A simple check every 6 months and brushing up on your pet’s oral hygiene will help to keep oral health diseases at bay.

Periodontal disease causes the gums to become red, swollen and sore and pet owners are encouraged to look out for these symptoms, as well as any changes in their pet’s normal eating habits in order to ensure that the condition can be treated as early as possible. If periodontal disease is allowed to develop it can cause bleeding, infection and the teeth to come loose and eventually fall out.

Throughout this month, vets will be participating in events and offering cat and dog dental sessions to raise awareness of the importance of oral health for pets and encourage more pet owners to take care of their pet’s teeth and gums.
