UK Dentists Spills the Beans in Survey to Discover Weirdest Things in Patients’ Mouths

Sample News Big

UK dentists have revealed the weirdest things they have found while examining patients’ mouths, in a survey carried out by Clinic Compare.

Around 3,000 dentists and dental nurses across the country participated in the questionnaire and it returned some surprising results. Among the items listed were a whole gherkin, sweet wrappers and a peanut shell, which had become stuck in a patient’s lip.

The survey was conducted in wake of the news that up to half the population admit they are sometimes too tired in the evenings to brush their teeth before bed and the survey findings certainly seem to back up the notion that some people are lax when it comes to their oral hygiene regime. In addition to food matter, dentists also reported finding a fly fishing wire and a block of wet tissue paper that had been used a makeshift filling.

Dr Tim Bradstock-Smith from the London Smile Clinic said that the list may be surprising to many, but for dentists, it is all part of the job. Having worked as a dentist for many years, he claims that nothing really shocks him now, especially as a large number of people neglect their oral health, fail to brush their teeth twice a day and don’t keep up to date with check-ups, as recommended by dentists.
