A British dental student swapped Birmingham for Oman as part of her studies. Noor Kapoor, a fourth year student from the University of Birmingham spent two weeks at Oman Dental College.

The two-week period formed part of Noor’s elective studies for her Bachelor of Dentistry degree programme.

In a press release, the Oman Dental College said that this was the first time that a student from the UK had visited the college as part of their studies.

Noor said that she was very fortunate to be able to spend time at the college and described the experience as “fantastic.” She is currently doing a comparative study of infection protocol in the UK and Oman and is planning to present the findings of her research in a paper, which will be presented to the British Dental Association in December.

Noor said that her fellow dental students in Oman were very welcoming and that she was treated very well. Everyone was friendly and eager to learn about life in the UK and she found it easy to study and focus on the project.

Her visit was made possible following discussions between Professor Damien Walmsley, secretary general of the Association for Dental Education in Europe and professor of Restorative Dentistry at the University of Birmingham and the dean of the Oman Dental College, Dr Rahul Arora.
