Truro Dental Practice Introduces Home Visits

A dental practice in Truro has introduced home visits to improve access to dental care for elderly people and those with special dental needs.

Oak House Dental Practice in St George’s Road has decided to start a home visiting service after noticing a shortage of similar services in the area. The service is designed to make it easier for patients who find it difficult to travel to get the treatment and care they require.

Dr Andrew Ridout, principal dentist at the practice, said that the team is excited to launch the new home care service to reach out to patients and ensure that all patients are able to access the services they are entitled to. Dr Ridout said that Cornwall has become a very popular destination for the retired and the domiciliary service will undoubtedly make a huge difference to older people living in the area.

In addition to elderly patients, the home care service will also be available to patients with long-term illnesses and disabled patients.

The practice has recently invested in specialist equipment to allow the team to care for patients in their own homes and the range of services available will include preventative dental treatments, cleaning treatments, routine examinations, denture services and basic restorative services, including fillings.

Dr Ridout said that it was unacceptable for patients to suffer because they find it difficult to leave home and get to the dental surgery. This new service will help to prevent this from happening and enable patients to get the treatment they need without worrying about organising transport or getting to and from the surgery. He added that it is particularly important for older people to have access to dental care, as they have a higher risk of developing dental health problems.
