Travel insurance ‘crucial for cosmetic dentistry abroad’

People considering joining the trend of health tourism holidays should be aware that additional travel insurance is a must-have, reports the Daily Mail.

The newspaper explains that the majority of travel policies will not cover medical treatment abroad and this could lead to patients paying a lot more than they bargained for should things go wrong.

"It simply doesn’t occur to people that they may not be covered under their existing travel policy. And the consequences could be very costly," said Jeffrey Klipp, managing director of insurance broker Marcus Hearn.

The firm added that not only may claims regarding cosmetic dentistry or surgery be turned down, but should it be found that the purpose of someone’s trip is to have treatment; insurers may dismiss claims for lost luggage, theft or accidents.

According to the Post Office, over a third of those who have travelled abroad for medical treatment do not check their insurance policies.

Shirley Norton, an Aberdeen development officer, recently told the Scotsman that she saved a third on her cosmetic dentistry treatment by travelling to Hungary.ADNFCR-1374-ID-18557100-ADNFCR
