Tributes have been pouring in after it was confirmed that a young dental receptionist passed away at the end of last year. Linzi Craig, who was just 22 years old, died from cancer in December after suffering symptoms she thought were caused by a holiday bug.

The dental receptionist developed severe symptoms on the last day of a holiday in Egypt with her boyfriend, Darren, and assumed that they were caused by a tummy bug. Sadly, on her return to the UK, Linzi didn’t recover, and she spent weeks in bed with muscle pain, aches, and sickness. Further investigations revealed that a cancerous mole she had removed as a teenager had actually resulted in cancerous cells spreading all over her body. Linzi died just 6 months after her holiday.

Linzi had a cancerous mole removed at the age of 14 and her parents, Colin and Alanna were optimistic that she would never have to worry again. When she came back from Egypt, they assumed that she had contracted an infection on holiday, but it soon became clear that this wasn’t just a tummy bug. Linzi spent two weeks in Nine Wells Hospital undergoing tests and was then told the horrific news that cancer had spread to her spleen, her stomach, spine, liver and lungs. Her condition deteriorated very quickly and she spent Christmas Day at home surrounded by her family. She passed away on the 27th December. Her boyfriend, Darren, is now fundraising for Melanoma Focus in her memory.
