Trafford Dentists Support National No Smoking Day
Dentists in Trafford are encouraging people to give up smoking as part of national No Smoking Day.
Ian Hunt, clinical director of Maple Road Dental Practice in Brooklands, will be providing free counselling sessions to help people quit smoking and raising awareness of the dangers of smoking at the practice. Ian said that he sees the damage smoking does first-hand every day and it is important that people are aware of the implications of smoking, from stained brown teeth to an increased risk of gum disease, which is the leading cause of adult tooth loss, and oral cancer, a deadly disease that kills thousands of people in the UK every year.
Maple Road Dental Practice will be offering free counselling session at the practice throughout the months of March and April to support national No Smoking Day. The practice, which was named British Dental Association Practice of the Year, will provide access to trained advisers for people who want to try and give up smoking.
Simon Pimblett, a former smoker who smoked 20 a day for several years, is one of the patients who have benefited from counselling sessions. Simon decided to take up the offer of counselling after suffering from dental problems directly related to smoking and he successfully gave up with the support of people around him.
Simon said that the change in his lifestyle has been incredible and he as vowed never to smoke again; he cycles to work on a regular basis and he feels much more energetic and positive than he used to; he also has around £200 of disposable income per month as a result of giving up smoking and plans to take a holiday later this year.
This year’s No Smoking Day campaign highlights ‘wealth and health’ and aims to encourage people to give up not just for health reasons, but also for financial reasons; a 20-a-day smoker could save more than £2,000 per year by giving up.
Ian Hunt said that Maple Road is supporting the campaign and staff members are there to help anyone who wants to give up smoking.
