Totnes dentists embark on gruelling transatlantic row to raise money for local hospice

Sample News Big

A pair of dentists from Totnes have set off on a gruelling fundraising adventure. Pure Dental Care’s Justin Marney and Azud Irshad are taking part in the Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge to raise funds for Rowcroft Hospice.

The intrepid duo has been in La Gomera in the Canary Islands for the last week in preparation for the challenge. The aim is to row 3,000 miles to the shores of the Caribbean island of Antigua. The pair will navigate the waters in a 23-ft boat.

The duo was aiming to raise a total of £10,000, and they have already made impressive inroads, with a running total of £7,000. Once they are on the water, they hope that more people will be inspired by their efforts and donations will come flooding in.

The challenge is expected to take around 60 days, which means that the dentists will be spending Christmas in a very different way to normal. They will be at sea on Christmas Day desperately trying to negotiate the ocean and reach dry land unscathed. Solo rowers, pairs and teams of three and four are taking part in the event.

Anyone who is interested in supporting the dentists’ mission is encouraged to contact Pure Dental Care.
