TI claims drug habit started after dental surgery
American rapper, TI has talked openly about his drug problem for the first time.
TI, from Atlanta, said he became hooked on prescription drugs after undergoing dental surgery earlier this year. The rapper had a series of procedures and was prescribed painkilling drugs, Oxycontin and hydrocodone.
In an interview with Vibe magazine, the music star said he started to take pills even when he was not in any pain and became increasingly dependent on the tablets.
TI now claims that he is clean, thanks to a stint in jail and one on one therapy sessions. The rapper was arrested in September in Los Angeles; he was found with ecstasy tablets but the case was later dropped. TI was however found guilty of violating the terms of his probation relating to a jail sentence, which was issued as a result of the rapper trying to buy illegal guns.
Before he went to jail, TI attended one on one therapy sessions to try and deal with his addiction to painkillers. He is now clean and claims that he is able to rationalise the situation; he said he realised that he was harming his body and potentially endangering other members of his family and this made him think about what was really important. TI’s wife, Tameka Cottle, was also arrested on suspicion of drug possession but the rapper claims that she has nothing to do with drugs.
