Thousands of patients have registered with a new NHS dental practice in Winchester.

The Iosis Clinic in Southgate Street has been operating since September but was only officially opened last Friday. 5000 patients have already registered with the practice and around 150 new patients are signing up every week.

The official opening ceremony was attended by civic dignitaries and the ribbon was cut by the Mayor of Winchester, Councillor Richard Izard and local MP Steve Brine.

The clinic was opened in response for demand for NHS services in the area; the practice runs an outreach scheme for patients in the local area and members of staff hope to register around 9,000 patients eventually. The outreach scheme operates a mobile clinic, which currently serves East Meon, Stockbridge, Waltham and Wickham.

The surgery is open from 8am until 8pm, making it easier for people who work full-time to make an appointment. Managing Director, Dr Shapour Hariri, said that the official opening ceremony was an opportunity for the team to celebrate the hard work involved in the last 18 months. Dr Hairiri is delighted with the initial response from local people and looks forward to new patients joining the register; the practice has no geographical restrictions and welcomes patients from further afield, as well as those living in central Winchester.
