Thieves Steal Confidential Patient Records in Broadwater Dental Surgery raid

Sample News Big

Thieves who broke into and raided a Broadwater dental surgery stole confidential patient records, it has been revealed.

During the break in at Broadwater Gentle Dental, which took place between 9pm on March 3rd and 7am on March 4th, thieves took a laptop, cash, the CCTV unit and a server, which contained all the patient records. Following the robbery, local police officers carried out door to door enquiries, but there was very little information about the incident and no witnesses came forward.

Three months after the theft, patients from the practice were contacted to inform them that the records had been taken. Joan Wade, 73, said that she had recently received a letter from the practice detailing the incident and was concerned when she realised that thieves had targeted the confidential information.

The practice was taken over by dentists and siblings, Dr Sachin and Dr Shal Anand on the 1st March, just 3 days before the practice was burgled. In the letter to patients, the dentists outlined what had happened and explained that some of the software, hardware and programmes had been stolen or corrupted and this means that valuable patient information has been lost. Despite the best efforts to find this information through back-up systems, nothing could be done and the practice has now upgraded security measures.

Dr Anand apologised to patients for the inconvenience, but was unable to comment further, as the case is still being handled by the police. If anyone has any information at all about the break-in, they are urged to contact police on 101.
