Two men have been jailed after targeting a dental practice and a church in Evesham.

James Yarwood and Matthew Schramm were caught raiding St Mary and St Egwin Church on High Street, Evesham by officers from West Mercia Police on the 29th December. Police had been informed of their presence by a member of the church staff. By the time they were caught at the church, the duo had already ransacked a dental practice, forcing it to close and postpone treatment for 15 patients awaiting urgent attention.

The thieves broke into High Street Dental Practice, making off with supplies, including toothpaste and tools, and cordless drills, which were found later by officers searching the local area. They also took cash, and caused considerable damage to the property. The practice closed for the day, leaving 15 patients waiting for emergency treatment. As it was the period between Christmas and New Year, appointments were made available for emergencies only, and this meant that people who were in genuine need of attention were forced to wait. A spokesman estimated the cost of the burglary at around £2,500.

In court in Worcester, Mr Schramm, 35, was jailed for 18 months, and also charged for failing to provide a drugs sample, while Mr Yarwood was given a 16-month sentence, which was suspended for 2 years.
