The ‘healthy’ snacks that pack a punch

Sample News Big

It has long been thought that the ‘healthy’ snacks you are able to purchase at your local supermarket are not actually as healthy as first thought. Now, recent findings have shown that this is indeed the case, as supposed ‘healthy’ food products are found to have as much as 69 per cent sugar content.

What may surprise some is that low-fat foods that you may think are likely to be more healthy are even worse, containing more sugar that that of their conventional counterparts. The reason for this is that sugar is used as a replacement for the lost level of taste.

Parents will also be worried to hear that many of the snacks that they buy for their children when they are at school are loaded with sugar content. Even food like spaghetti of the tinned variety is a problem area, and health experts are urging the food industry to re-think the situation.

It is not only tooth decay that is a concern, but there are also possible links to heart disease, cholesterol and obesity.

It is the apparent cheapness of sugar that is the reason for its abundance in supposed ‘healthy’ snacks, but for consumers it is added worry to the apparently never ending list of harmful foods that were once thought of benefit to health.
