Teeth whitening ‘not for everyone’

Sample News Big

A bright white smile may seem like a good idea but tooth whitening techniques are dangerous for some, according to one report.

The Irish Independent warns that for people with tooth-coloured veneers, caps, crowns or fillings, the result may be uneven as bleach does not affect the work along with the natural tooth.

Anyone with naturally sensitive teeth may have an intolerance to the bleach used, it says, warning that it can also be harmful in pregnant women.

"Many of us are tempted by tooth whitening advertisements and products with the promise of a dazzling smile – but it’s not for everyone," it claims.

Children under 12 are also dissuaded from the procedure as the treatment can be painful.

According to the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, teeth whitening procedures can correct the yellowing of teeth that comes from ageing and also lighten coffee or tobacco-stained molars.ADNFCR-1374-ID-18379180-ADNFCR
