A Southend boy was left needing £200 pounds-worth of dental treatment after being robbed and attacked by teenage thugs.
Southend Youth Court heard how the boy, just 16, was struck in the face and had his mobile phone forcibly taken from him when he dropped to the floor.
The boy had been chatting with his girlfriend on the mobile at the time when the two thugs confronted him.
The Echo reported that one of the attackers, 17, who cannot be named because of his age, owned-up the robbery in court.
Prosecutor Glenda Thompson said one of the attackers had known the boy from school.
She told the court how the victim was walking in Southend at around 10.30pm on May 9 when he saw the thugs coming towards him. They had been drinking at a party prior to the incident.
The victim issued a statement saying he was still frightened to go out at night.
For the defence Roger Neild said the mugger had begun a cookery course whilst in custody and claimed that young people make more mistakes than grown-ups as they find their way through life.
The attacker was sentenced to an 18-month detention and training order.
