A dental team based in Swadlincote is inviting local children to attend oral health workshops as part of an effort to get kids interested in dental health, and encourage them to take good care of their teeth and gums.

The team from the Delph Dental Practice will be hosting a series of interactive workshops over the spring and summer months to try and encourage local children to make healthy choices and improve their dental health. The sessions are designed to be informative, but also great fun, and there will be an array of activities on offer. The workshops are scheduled for March 26th, June 14th and the 27th July. The sessions will be run by experienced health educators, Katarzyna Grabowieka and George Kettlewell.

Principle dentist, John Hume-Spry, said that the team is keen to do its bit to try and reduce rates of decay and prevent children from developing symptoms of what is, in the vast majority of cases, a preventable disease. John has visited a number of local schools to speak to children about oral hygiene, and he is passionate about spreading the message about the importance of brushing the teeth and watching what you eat. Hundreds of children are admitted to hospital in the UK each week for dental problems, and this number could be reduced dramatically if parents and children took preventative steps. John said that sugar consumption was a major issue, and urged parents to download the free Sugar Smart app to enable them to monitor their child’s sugar intake.
