A 27-year-old man from Staffordshire has been jailed after knocking out a parking warden’s teeth.
Grant Saville, from Weston Coyney, was sentenced to 20 months in jail after pleading guilty to a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Mr Saville was given a parking ticket by the victim of the attack after he parked in a disabled space at The Strand in Longton on the 19th August. After receiving the ticket, which was given on the grounds that Saville had not displayed a blue badge and was therefore not legally able to park in the bay, he became aggressive. The warden tried to run back to his van, but he tripped, and was kicked in the head several times while on the floor.
Mr Saville caused extensive injuries to his victim, who required urgent hospital treatment. The warden suffered facial injuries and he also lost three of his teeth in the attack. He underwent dental treatment after the incident, and requires continued dental care.
The warden’s bodycam recorded footage of the incident, which was shown in court, and some members of the public also tried to intervene to stop the attack.
In court in Stoke-on-Trent, Mr Saville pleaded guilty and he will now spend 20 months behind bars. The incident was described by the council as “thuggish” and city director, David Sidaway, stated that the sentence underlines that assault of any kind will not be tolerated.
