Staff at a dental clinic in Brewarrina, Australia are hoping to secure funding to keep the surgery open for a further two years.

The award winning clinic opened last year and has offered patients in the local area improved access to dental services. The clinic is staffed by final year dental students and qualified professionals.

Originally, the clinic was given state funding until June next year but staff are hoping to secure a further two years of funding. Local people have undoubtedly benefitted from the service and the surgery has been recognised with a national award.

Belinda Colless, from the Brewarrina Shire Council said the project is currently meeting targets and is making a real different to oral health in the community. Staff involved in the programme are keen to continue building on the success of the surgery and hope to liaise with other local towns in the future.

Since the clinic opened, information has been collected and will now be used to assess the quality of local services; the data will also be used to plan future projects and expand services into other regional towns.
