Southampton dental patients breathe a sigh of relief as Bassett practice is saved

Dental patients in Bassett, Southampton, are breathing a sigh of relief after their local practice was saved.

Dale Road Dental Care was one of the three practices in the city set to close after a previous NHS contract deal with Colosseum Dental fell through. Arrangements between the NHS and the Swiss-owned company, which has closed three clinics in Portsmouth, were no longer viable, and this meant that up to 15,000 patients were facing an uncertain future. Fortunately, the surgeries have now been rescued as part of an investment by South Cliff Dental Group.

The group, which is owned by Dr Ashkan Pitchforth, has recently saved a further three clinics in Steyning and West Sussex. The company secured the investment funds with the help of commercial law firm, Brabners. Dr Pitchforth described the process as “complex” but said that he was looking forward to putting money into the Southampton practices to provide local residents with the best possible standards of care.

As part of a £500,000 investment in the area, the Dale Road and Portland Street surgeries and Steyning Dental Care will be refurbished and modernised in the coming months.
