Smile makeover patient: I got my life back

A grandmother-of-five has been given a whole new lease of life by a smile makeover, reports the Sun.

Cathleen McGowan told the newspaper that she spent 20 years of her life as a recluse because her teeth fell out from periodontal disease.

"I was being held ransom by the shame of such dreadful-looking teeth," she said.

However, an overwhelming fear of the dentist stopped Ms McGowan from seeking treatment.

But when the 68-year-old was accepted onto ITV makeover show Make Me Perfect, she realised it was just the push she needed to change her smile.

A cosmetic dentist removed her rotten teeth and had a dental bridge and crowns fitted over the gaps.

"The transformation was incredible," Ms McGowan said. "I didn’t just get my smile back that day – I got my life."

Cosmetic dentistry is a common feature of television makeover shows and they are largely attributed for the rising popularity of veneers, according to the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.ADNFCR-1374-ID-18579293-ADNFCR
