Six construction firms are vying to win the contract to build the new Birmingham dental hospital.

Firms including Laing O’Rourke, Morgan Sindall, Interserve, Bam Construct, Vinci and Skanska, have all entered the running to secure the contract to oversee construction of a new state of the art dental hospital, which is expected to cost around £35 million.

Last month Bas Lift invited companies to tender for the hospital, which will open on the corner of Pebble Mill Road in Edgbaston. A new dental school for the University of Birmingham will also be constructed on the site.

Work is due to begin on the site in April and in addition to the hospital and dental school, there are also plans for research and teaching facilities, offices, parking and support facilities.

The new development will enable dental students in the city to benefit from state of the art research and training facilities, as well as improving standards of care for patients.
