Simply Health investment will enable Teeth Team expansion

Additional funding for Teeth Team, a dental health initiative for children, will enable the charity to expand, it has been revealed. Teeth Team has received investment worth £137,000 from SimplyHealth, which will enable it to provide services in 50 more schools.

Teeth Team was set up in Hull in 2010, and it has been tremendously successful. The aim was to encourage children to look after their teeth and to provide them with the knowledge they need to brush properly. Teeth Team runs supervised brushing clubs in schools and nurseries, which ensure that children brush their teeth properly at least once a day.

Chris Groombridge, chair of trustees at Teeth Team, said that the investment from SimplyHealth would enable more children to benefit from the charity’s work. Extra funding will allow Teeth Team representatives to go into more schools and provide training for members of staff.

Henry Clover, SimplyHealth Professional’s director of dental policy, said that the firm was very excited to be working with Teeth Team, a charity that has made a massive difference to oral health standards in Hull and beyond. In the last two years alone, the number of extractions carried out on children in the local area has fallen by almost 20 percent and rates of decay have fallen by approximately 6 percent.

The programme has attracted plaudits from public health officials and dentists and it was recently awarded the Outstanding Innovation Award 2017 by the British Society of Paediatric Dentists.
