Shaftesbury dentist outlines changes to prepare patients for their next session in the dental chair

A Shaftesbury dentist who was ‘itching to get back to work’ has outlined changes made to practices post-lockdown to prepare patients for their next session in the dental chair.

Dr Geoffrey Cockrell, from Ivy Cross Dental Surgery, said that there are notable differences now, but stressed that patients shouldn’t be worried about going to the dentist. Ivy Cross Dental Surgery reopened on Monday June 8th after the team spent days preparing the clinic to ensure the highest safety standards. Now, when patients arrive at the clinic, they will be met at their car by a member of the team and their temperature will be checked. Patients will be advised to sanitise their hands on entry and they will be taken straight through to the treatment room. All staff will be wearing robust PPE, and deep cleaning will take place after every patient.

To promote social distancing and prevent the spread of infection, patient numbers will be monitored strictly, and appointments will be given solely to those in need of urgent treatment initially. As the number of cases falls, it is hoped that the team will be able to welcome more patients back to the practice and that a wider range of services will be available.

Dr Cockrell said that the Covid-19 crisis has been extremely challenging for dentists, especially in cases where patients have needed help, but the team is thrilled to be back at work. For now, everyone is trying their best to stay afloat and to ensure that all patients and staff are safe.
