GlaxoSmithKline has announced the launch of a new ‘ground breaking’ toothpaste for sensitive teeth.

Sensodyne Repair and Protect is the first everyday fluoride toothpaste to contain NovaMin, a patented form of technology. NovaMin technology has been scientifically proven to ease the pain of sensitive teeth and reduce sensitivity by creating a protective layer over exposed dentin. The toothpaste claims to protect teeth against sensitivity and repair sensitive areas of the teeth.

Sensodyne Repair and Protect will be launched in over 50 countries over the course of the next 10 months.

Sensitivity is extremely common; it is estimated that around 80 percent of people experience sensitivity at some point in their lives. Sensitivity is caused by exposed dentin, which occurs as a result of the protective enamel surfaces of the teeth becoming damaged or worn; sensitivity can cause pain, especially when you drink or eat hot or cold food and drinks.

NovaMin technology was first developed to stimulate bone growth but scientists have worked to apply the technology to toothpaste to try and treat tooth sensitivity. The technology causes a tooth-like protective layer t form over the top of the exposed dentin; the layer is up to 50 percent harder than natural dentin. The new toothpaste can be used twice a day every day.
