Scottish dental group, Clyde Munro, has joined Alzheimer Scotland’s Dementia Friends initiative to provide training for more than 300 employees.

Dementia Friends is a programme, which is designed to help improve awareness of dementia and its impact on individuals and their families. As part of a new partnership, around 160 dentists and 140 other members of staff will undergo training to improve dental care for patients with dementia and gain a better understanding of the condition. Once qualified, Dementia Friends use their knowledge to support those living with dementia.

The first group of 20 staff members from Clyde Munro has now successfully completed training at the chain’s flagship Glasgow practice, and in the coming months, staff members from the remaining 32 clinics across Scotland will be starting the programme.

Clyde Munro has signed up to the initiative as part of a move that will see Alzheimer Scotland reach out to more than 90,000 people in a bid to dramatically increase the number of Dementia Friends.

The first instalment of the team’s training was delivered by programme manager, Anne McWhinnie, who described the firm’s commitment to training its 300 members of staff as a “great step forwards.”
