Children from Ysgol Bancyfelin are celebrating their fourth healthy living reward.

The school has been awarded its fourth Healthy Schools leaf in recognition of children learning all about healthy living, oral and general hygiene and cleanliness.

Students at the school were visited by dental hygienist, Helen Edwards and the ‘clean team’ from Werndale Hospital, which is close to the school.

The school has gained leaves in 2004, 2006 and 2008 and head teacher, Gwyneth Stevens that it is very important for children to learn the importance of healthy living, especially with so many conditions, many of the preventable such as gum disease, tooth decay and obesity, becoming more common in children.

The Healthy Schools initiative is designed to educate children about a range of health issues and provide them with the knowledge and skills to make healthy lifestyle choices, which will stand them in good stead in the future.
