Scarborough residents resort to DIY treatment as another dental practice closes

Some residents in Scarborough are resorting to DIY dental treatment as another practice in the town closes.
Many local people have reported difficulties getting an appointment, with some urged to travel as far as Leeds or Hull to see a dentist. Some residents who have been unable to get an appointment have taken their own teeth out.

News of worsening access issues comes as the mydentist clinic on Dunslow Road, Eastfield closed its doors on April 30th. It is the second practice to shut in Eastfield in the last few years following the closure of another mydentist surgery in New Queen Street.

Rebekah Manning is one of thousands of patients affected by the closure of the Dunslow Road practice. Having received dental care in Eastfield for 14 years, she has now been forced to transfer to a mydentist practice in York, just under an hour away. As Rebekah cares for her mother, who is in a wheelchair, and has children, travelling to York for dental appointments isn’t easy. The children will miss valuable school time if they have an appointment and it will also be a long journey for Rebekah’s mum.

A number of Scarborough residents have taken to social media to complain about dental access in the town and call for action to be taken to make more NHS dental places available.
