Planning officers in Scarborough have approved proposals to turn a former building society into a brand new dental practice.

Scarborough Council has given plans submitted by Alan Soare, from Whitby, to turn the premises formerly occupied by Skipton Building Society in Coldyhill Lane in Newby into a two-surgery dental practice, the green light.

The plans include proposals to create a new practice, complete with state of the art treatment rooms, a decontamination suite, a reception and waiting area, a staff room and a disabled access toilet. The renovation project will require internal work only.

The proposal was widely supported, but there were eight objections, with two letters sent to the council outlining concerns about parking and additional traffic.

The decision to support the plans has now been confirmed, and many local residents are pleased with the news, as the practice will make it possible for more people to see a dentist on their doorstop.
