Salisbury Dentist Preparing for Rwanda Mission

Sample News Big

A dentist and her teenage son are preparing to swap Salisbury for Rwanda to spend two weeks helping some of the world’s poorest people.

Lindsey Leggett and her son, Eddie, will spend two weeks in a rural area of the country providing much-needed dental care. Lindsey, a dentist at The Barn Dental Clinic in Odstock, will be bringing out boxes of supplies and dental equipment, which have been donated by a number of companies, as well as rugby shirts donated by Salisbury Rugby Club.

Lindsey’s son Eddie, 17, will be volunteering at a children’s orphanage and he is looking forward to giving the rugby shirts out and spending time with the children.

The project is run by the Global Volunteer Network and the pair got involved after helping out on a similar programme in Zambia. Lindsey said that she was eager to get involved with the programme in Rwanda because she was only observing during her time in Zambia and wanted to make a real difference and get involved with the project work.

The situation in Rwanda is as far removed as it gets from Salisbury; there are currently only eleven qualified dentists for the entire population, which is approximately 11 million and most people have very little awareness of oral hygiene and oral health.
