Normally, the team at Apollonia House Dental and Health Care is renowned for telling patients to steer clear of cakes and biscuits to keep their teeth healthy, but last week the dentists and nurses ditched their healthy eating habits and encouraged visitors to eat as much cake as possible for a good cause. The practice hosted a coffee morning as part of Macmillan’s national campaign to raise money and awareness of the cancer charity.

Practice manager Carolina Stoneley, treatment coordinator Jessica Knight and new dentist Laura Rice were charged with organising the event, which marked the first time the team has taken part in the Macmillan coffee morning campaign. At first, Laura was a little apprehensive and worried that nobody would come as it was the first event of its kind the team had organised, but soon the surgery was full and plenty of cake was consumed.

The team donned their chef’s attire at home and brought in an array of baked delights, including sponge cakes, biscuits, cupcakes and muffins. The trio of organisers was helped out by administration assistant Ben Stoneley and the event was a great success.

In total, the event raised £350, which will now be donated to Macmillan, a charity that carries out such valuable work to support people affected by cancer and their families.

The Macmillan coffee morning is an annual event celebrated in schools, universities, hospitals, GP and dental practices and local businesses up and down the country. The aim is to raise lots of money for cancer research, provide support for cancer patients and their families and also to bring communities together.
