Children in Rugby were invited to a family fun day at Binley Woods Dentistry last weekend (Friday 2nd June) to celebrate National Smile Month, the UK’s biggest oral health campaign.

The team at Binley Woods Dentistry put together a fantastic day to educate people about oral hygiene and healthy eating in a bid to reduce the risk of dental disease. Children were able to meet Peppa Pig, and there was a host of activities on offer, including face painting and a raffle. The team was also on hand to answer questions and give brushing demonstrations and tips.

Alison Hewitt, practice coordinator, said that the event was a chance to have a bit of fun, but also to encourage children and adults to take good care of their teeth. The practice is supporting National Smile Month, which is run by the Oral Health Foundation, and it is also hosting ‘Smile Bright Week’ from June 1st to June 7th, which is designed specifically for kids. It’s really important for children to adopt good habits from an early age, Alison explained, so encouraging them to take an interest in dental care is hugely beneficial. The event was designed to be lots of fun, and hopefully, children will learn that the dental clinic isn’t a scary place.

Dr Nigel Carter OBE, chief executive of the Oral Health Foundation, applauded the Binley Woods team and thanked them for supporting National Smile Month. The campaign will run until the 15th June.
