Residents complain as work on dental practice extension gets under way

Local residents in Hucknall have complained about changes to planned work on a dental practice extension.

A planning application to extend the current premises at Portland Road Family Dental Care was approved by officers at Ashfield District Council but locals are up in arms about the building work. One neighbour said that the work that is currently being done is completely different to the original plans, which outlined proposals for a two-storey building that was level with the roofline of adjacent properties.

The project has evolved into a three-storey development, which the neighbour claims will overlook neighbouring houses and take away peoples’ privacy.

The neighbour, who did not wish to be named, suggested that the extension will impact the value of surrounding properties and make them less attractive to prospective buyers because the gardens will now be overlooked.
Representatives from Ashfield District Council confirmed that the original plans for the extension had been approved. However, the work that is now underway has not been given the green light and this means that additional permission must be obtained.

The applicant, Maboob Ahmad, said that planning officers had visited the site and advised him to continue with the work. The new planning proposal was submitted to the council on the 11th June and will be reviewed by the committee on August 8th. Mr Ahmad has been encouraged to stop any work that doesn’t adhere to the original application until a decision has been made. Any work that is carried out without the relevant permission is done so at the applicant’s own risk, according to the council’s director for place and communities, Theresa Hodgkinson.
