Research reduces teeth implant waiting period
New research into titanium implants may reduce the length of time it takes to replace a missing tooth, reports ScienceDaily.
The magazine cites a dissertation from the Sahlgrenska Academy in Sweden which found that the 98 per cent of cases which had a titanium implant directly loaded with a bridge were successful.
Currently, the majority of patients who have artificial teeth inserted must wait between four and seven months for a crown or a bridge to be put in place.
"Many people feel physically and psychologically handicapped by their toothlessness and it would mean a great deal to patients if they didn’t have to wait so long for the treatment to be completed," commented Par-Olav Ostman, dentist and author of the dissertation.
A study by Mintel for the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry revealed that 32 per cent of the population claim to be concerned by the appearance of their teeth.
