Reloxin ready to come to the US as the “new Botox”

Sample News Big
Botox alternative Reloxin seems to be safe and effective in smoothing forehead wrinkles, a new US study has found. Reloxin has yet to be approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), but could prove a serious competitor to Botox, according to researchers.
Reloxin is approved for cosmetic use in 23 countries outside the US, and has been used to treat neurological disorders for more than a decade outside the US.
Reloxin, containing less protein than Botox and fewer antigens, should theoretically break down at a slower rate, providing longer-lasting smoothing effects. In the latest Phase III trial, which saw 1,200 patients treated with the drug in five forehead sites, Reloxin’s effects lasted more than 13 months.
The drug also defuses more in the tissue than Botox, prompting concerns about drooping in the eyelid or mouth.
