Redditch dentist gears up for new challenge in Tanworth in Arden

A dentist currently working in Redditch is gearing up for a new challenge after deciding to leave his post and run his own practice in Tanworth in Arden.

Vernon Elliott is leaving Archer Road Dental Surgery to get back to the type of dentistry he loves. The popular dentist has built the Redditch surgery up from having 500 to 22,000 patients, but he now longs to go back to his roots and focus on providing treatment, rather than “tick boxing.” In 2011, Vernon sold the practice to a corporate chain, but stayed on as principal dentist and now, he is excited to get back to doing what he loves at a smaller clinic.

Vernon explained that his enjoyment of dentistry comes from helping patients, interacting with them and being part of the community, and the practice he is leaving had become “more managerial”, which wasn’t his style. In Tanworth, he will have a much smaller team and the focus will be on providing patients with care, rather than hitting targets or filling in forms.

Vernon joined Archer Road Dental Surgery in 1989 and back then, the dentist who owned the surgery had 500 patients on the books and the clinic was running at a loss. In 1991, Vernon bought the clinic and then extended it in 1999. Now, the clinic offers around 22,000 places.
