A young dentist from Stirling has been named as this year’s winner of the prestigious Herd Medal. Henry Chen, from Platt and Common Dental, received the award at a presentation earlier in the week.

The Herd Medal is named after Douglas and Ian Herd. The brothers, who worked in the Forth Valley, Stirling and Grangemouth, were renowned for their expertise and excellent reputation within the dental industry. When they passed away before reaching retirement, the Forth Valley Area and Local Dental Committees decided to start presenting an award for young dentists known as the Herd Medal. The award recognises outstanding young dentists and hails the achievements of graduates.

This year’s winner, Henry Chen, was presented with the award at an event held at Park Hotel. The promising young dentist was chosen by a panel at the Forth Valley Area and Local Dental Committees.

The committee wishes to use the medal as a symbol of young talent in the Forth Valley area and hopes that the award, which is given to dentists in memory of two consummate professionals who were incredibly passionate about their jobs, will encourage those starting out in their careers to aim high.
