A dental practice in Preston has become the first in the UK to achieve gold Green Achiever status in recognition of its commitment to the environment.

Lands End Dental Practice is the only practice in the country to hold gold status and the team is delighted. Members of staff at the surgery have been working hard to reduce waste, save energy and water and recycle in a bid to do their bit to save the environment

The practice operates a rigorous recycling programme, they have features in place to save energy and water, including energy-saving light bulbs and fluorescent lighting, and they use digital X-rays, which emit a much lower dose of radiation than traditional X-rays.

The practice also uses the latest multimedia technology to contact patients and store records, thus reducing the amount of paper used. Ordering has also changed to reduce the amount of visits from delivery drivers and cut down on the number of cardboard boxes delivered to the practice.

Dr Pahlbod Tehranian, a dentist at the practice, said that the aim is to continue the improvements in the future. He added that everyone is excited and proud and it is a great honour to be the first practice in the UK to be awarded the gold status.
