Sample News Big

A dental hygienist from Torquay has retired after 46 years.

Paul Hedge will down his dental tools for the last time exactly 46 years to the day since he qualified from the Royal Air Force Dental Training Establishment in Halton, Buckinghamshire.

Mr Hedge spent many years with the RAF, completing placements in the Arabian Gulf, as well as time at home at RAF Brize Norton. He was working at Brize Norton when he was demobbed and forced to find his first job outside of the military. Mr Hedge found a job in Harlow and worked in London before moving to Devon with his wife, a dental nurse, in 1980.

Mr Hedge secured a job at Terrace Dental Practice and has been working there ever since. The couple quickly adapted to life in Devon and loved life by the sea. Mr Hedge is a keen angler and enjoyed days out at sea and bringing up his children close to the coast.

To this day, Mr Hedge still treats some of his original patients and over the years, he has become close to many of his clients and a real feature of the practice team. Colleagues and patients will be sad to see him go on September 25th. He said that the worst part about retiring would be missing his patients and colleagues and he is looking forward to popping in now and again to catch up with them.

Mr Hedge is an active member of many local theatre and amateur dramatic groups and is planning to spend his retirement writing, watching and participating in plays and spending time with his family, which includes three grandchildren. Mr Hedge has already written a dental themed e-book for the Kindle and he also acts as part of murder mystery events across the South West.
