Children from a nursery in Pontypool have joined forces with the British Dental Health Foundation to celebrate National Smile Month.

Children from Osbourne Lodge Nursery are taking part in a series of activities and events to celebrate National Smile Month, which is running from the 19th May until the 19th June. The aim of the campaign, which is run every year by the British Dental Health Foundation, and raises awareness of oral health issues and encourage people to adopt healthy lifestyle choices.

The children have been taking part in games and activities with the aim of learning about three key messages from the BDHF, which include the importance of brushing for two minutes twice a day, cutting down on sugar consumption and visiting a dentist every 6 months.

Children have also been given a goody bag, which will help them to maintain good oral hygiene at home. Teachers have also been on hand to chat to parents about oral health issues in a bid to improve standards of oral health and reduce the risk of children suffering from toothache and pain caused by decay.

The nursery is also hosting a competition for traders in town. Traders have been photographed posing with the National Smile Month mascot and the entrant who gets the most ‘likes’ on their Facebook page will win a prize.
